Let’s Dismantle Unjust Systems That Opress Human Rights

We have partnered with the Midwest Access Coalition (MAC) to advance abortion-related healthcare access to those in need.

About the Midwest Access Coalition:

“We recognize that health equity can only be achieved by dismantling the systems of oppression that obstruct reproductive justice. MAC strives to disrupt power structures that uphold white supremacy and infringe on bodily autonomy.

MAC envisions a world in which all people have access to safe, free, legal abortions wherever they live. As a practical abortion fund, MAC helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest access a safe abortion by assisting with travel coordination and costs, lodging, food, medicine, childcare, and emotional support.”

Stand United Against Centuries-Old Systemic Racism: Honor the Past, Educate the Present, and Envision a Future Fueled by Love."

A few words from Jacques Shalo and Kribi Coffee's position on the current global awareness and movement to eradicate systemic racism.

Many of you already know that I originally hail from Cameroon, located on the western coast of Africa. For those who did not, now you do.

The vast amount of slave trading in Africa occurred between the 1500’s through the 1900’s. The transatlantic slave trade sea route spanned 3,000 coastal miles between what is now Senegal and Angola, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon. Most of the actual slave captives came from inland and then were trekked, by foot, over miles and miles of mosquito-infested deep forestation. Had my family not fled and relocated, my own parents could have become captives of the slave trade.

You see, systemic racism, marginalization and disenfranchisement of African people did not start with #GeorgeFloyd or the countless other black brothers and sisters who have been so brutally murdered recently. This is an adversity that generation after generation have had to endure.

Who are Africans, you ask? This quote by Dr. Hakim Adi is a prime example of what Africa was, before it was pillaged by western civilization:

“The West African empire of Mali was larger than Western Europe and reputed to be one of the richest and most powerful states in the world.”

When people of color tell you that they are tired of the relentless injustices perpetrated against them, they are tired. This has been persisting for centuries. How much of this can any one group and race of people take?

We encourage you to continue to educate and enlighten yourself about the root causes and history of systemic racism, and the injustices perpetrated against people of African descent. The article titled “Africa and the Transatlantic Slave Trade” by Dr. Hakim Adi provides a good starting point.

We remain strong and united AGAINST systemic racism, maltreatment, and the brutal murdering of people of color. Only LOVE, not HATE, will heal our wounds.

Best,
Jacques Shalo

Kribi Stands With Ukraine

When our global community suffers, we step in any way imaginable. To show solidarity with Ukraine in their time of need, we created a distinctive Stand With Ukraine Blend. In addition to our coffee blend effort, we teamed up with the Onion Roll in Oak Park, IL, by selling their Blue and Yellow bagels! Every cent from these bagels went to St. Joseph, the Betrothed Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

50% of the proceeds went to the St. Joseph the Betrothed Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to support the Ukrainian relief effort.

Domestic Violence Has No Place Here

Every April, we release our Together Strong blend to support our partners at Sarah’s Inn. Sarah’s Inn was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned women in River Forest and Oak Park, to address a lack of services for victims of domestic violence and their families. The agency has since grown to become one of the largest and most comprehensive domestic violence agencies serving Chicago and 22 surrounding West Cook County suburban communities.

is only for the month of April (their major fundraising month).

$5 of the proceeds goes to Sarah’s Inn to improve the lives of those affected by domestic violence and break the cycle.

Together, we make change a reality.

We appreciate each and every one of our patrons for supporting us and our proud partners.

SAWUBONA!
